The Burden and the Brother

The Burden and the Brother

A man hiking through the Alps met a little girl carrying her baby brother on her back. The boy was too young to walk by himself on the rough and rocky track, but he was still heavy for her to bare. The girl was bended over under his weight and sweating with every step she took up the mountain, but still whistled and sang.

“You have a heavy burden on you” said the man.

The girl looked at him in awe, and scolded him:

“It’s not a burden I am carrying, sir. This is my brother!

Do you feel helping your brother in need is a burden?”

The Door to Your Heart

The Door to Your Heart

Once upon a time there lived a master painter in Paris. One day, after many months of working on a new painting, he summoned his closest friends and revealed the masterpiece to them: a breathtaking portrait of Jesus in front of a dark door. The people were in awe at how beautiful the painting was, but they realized something was wrong in the image. One of the men took a deep breath to summon his courage and said:

“Master, something is missing from in the painting. Jesus knocks on the door, but there is no handle…”

The door to your heart opens only inwards ” answered the artist. “He knocks, but only you can open it.”

The Most Fragile Gift

The Most Fragile Gift

Once upon a time, in a little village in the mountains of Spain lived in solitude a master artist. He adored children visiting his workshop, and once a year he made special gifts for them: tiny and invaluable, and yet very fragile little gifts. The kids loved the delicate presents, but no matter how careful they were with them, after a while their beautiful gifts shattered into thousands of pieces. The children cried with bitter tears, and after some time, the master made them new ones, more beautiful and more alluring, but even more fragile.

One day, the parent of a boy knocked on the artist’s door and asked him:

“Master, my child loves your miniature gifts, but why do you make them so delicate and easily broken?

He is so happy when he receives them, but becomes so sad when he loses them.”

The artist smiled and said to the father: “Because one day, a girl will give your boy her heart. It is the most precious and the most fragile thing in the world. He learns now, on things that don’t matter at all, to care for what one day will matter the most.”

Do Unto Others as You Would Unto Yourself

Do Unto Others as You Would Unto Yourself

A long time ago, in a little country town in New Zealand there lived a rich, kind and loving man. One day, he called one of the poorest farmers working on his land, and said to him: “I know your family has struggled with money for years, and I want to help you. I have a job for you. I will pay you well. Will you work for me?”

“Of course I will” said the man happily. “What do I have to do?”

“I have land on the edge of the forest, and I would like you to build a new house for me.”

The farmer left whistling in joy, and begun working on the house the following day. The rich man paid for everything, but never came to oversee how the house was progressing. The farmer realized he was all alone for most days, and begun to cut corners. He bought cheap and shoddy materials, and stole the rest of the money. He rushed to get rid of the work, and knew in a short time the house will need repairs, but he will be long gone. The house looked perfect on the outside, but he did a poor job, and it had many invisible faults. One day the farmer went to the owner and told him the house was finalized. The owner paid him, and promised to go see the house later that day. When the farmer took the money, the owner also handed him a key:

“I know your family had a difficult life, and I know you live in a ramshackle cottage far away from town. For this reason I give you this new house as a gift. I let you build it just the way you like it. I give it to you with joy, my brother. Receive this house from me. You deserve it.”

The Myth of Overnight Success

The Myth of Overnight Success

After studying more than 500 successful tech companies, Vivek Wadhwa, Director of Research at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization at Duke University, concluded that the common belief that young entrepreneurs can turn ideas into billion-dollar companies overnight is nothing more than a myth. The media promotes the few rare outliers, but the reality is very different: the average age of successful entrepreneurs is 40 years old . “Twice as many successful entrepreneurs are over 50 as under 25. The vast majority—75 percent—have more than six years of industry experience, and half have more than ten years when they create their startup” wrote Wadhwa. Most entrepreneurs are between 55 and 64 years old, and they are twice as likely to build successful startups than those between 20 and 35.

Building something that matters is a marathon, not a sprint , and even the rare exceptions must obey the rules of nature.

Think about this when you work on your dreams and lose your patience or wonder why nothing is working.
